terrain and territory, slip cast black porcelain with glazed interior 10” diameter x 28” tall. 2018
terrain and territory focuses on the potent space of the fence post hole as a metaphor, and commentary against the current administrations determination to construct false narratives and divisions around issues regarding immigration, and "us" and "them” mentality. By pulling the subterranean space of the hole up and out of the ground as a hollow ceramic form, it shifts the functionality of the space as container, rather than divider, and placed; seeks to call into attention the skin of this often over looked space. The extension of a fences intention, to delineate, is further implied in the gallery by constructing an implied border between the two forms set in the space.
